Edibles: start low, go slow
Gummies, chocolates and other edibles are a smoke-free way to enjoy cannabis. They work differently than smoking or vaping, so it pays to know the basics before your first bite.
Why timing matters
Edibles are digested, so they can take 30 minutes to two hours to kick in, and the effects can last much longer than smoking. The most common mistake is taking more because you don't feel anything yet. Don't — wait it out.
Serving sizes in New York
New York caps adult-use edibles at 10 mg of THC per serving and 100 mg per package, and each serving must be clearly marked. If you're new, start with less than one serving — half a gummy is a perfectly good start.
Keep them away from kids and pets
Edibles can look like regular candy. Keep them in the original child-resistant packaging, locked up and out of sight. If a child or pet eats cannabis, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or your vet right away.
